Girard-Perregaux just announced a new trio of Vintage 1945 wristwatches, and they’re bringing many pieces from the brand’s permanent collection into the spotlight. We can’t get over how cool the blue dials are – there’s something about the lightness and brightness of that hue that makes blue a perfect color for the type of retro-vibe watches that make up the Vintage 1945 collection.

On top of the blue dials, the other thing that stands out about the new models is black titanium DLC (diamond-like carbon) for the cases and bracelet.

The most challenging part of creating this watch, Girard-Perregaux says, was designing and producing a movement that would meet the client’s requirements for a very slim profile, a very large date display, and a very fast date-change mechanism. The move is 4.6 mm thick, and it is 13.75 mm high. The date display is very large, measuring 68.6 by 5.6 mm, and it is the first that Girard-Perregaux has ever made that changes instantaneously, at the touch of a button.

The movement is in a 45.5-mm-diameter case constructed to resist magnetic fields of up to 2,000 gausses, thanks to a soft-iron inner compartment and a soft iron cage surrounding the movement. Steel is used for the patient to permit the watch to be magnetized to assist in setting the time and the date via a small permanent magnet installed beneath the crown at 4 o’clock.
